Dr. Kanwar Chahal, DVM

Hi there!
I am Dr. Kanwar Chahal and I have been a full-time veterinarian at Dixie Animal hospital since graduating from veterinary school in 2015. I grew up in Mississauga, Ontario, and have always been passionate about working with animals.

I graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Science, Biochemistry specialization in 2010. I have done research in bacteriology and aided in developing on-site bacteria identification technology using gene sequencing. My passion for animal care led me to work with many different species of animals, reptiles, and fish. Later, I pursued my education at Ontario Veterinary College, Guelph, ON, where I graduated with Honors in 2015.

Additionally, I am certified in animal dental care from the Animal Dental Center, Baltimore. I received my certificate in principles of orthopedic surgery from AONA at Phoenix, Arizona. I recently obtained my certificate in soft tissue surgery from Western Veterinary Conference training center, Las Vegas.

Most days my three-year-old English bulldog named Hazel tags along with me to work and has become an integrated member of the clinic.

When I am not at work, most of my time is spent with my wife Simran and my one year old daughter Savreen. In my spare time, I volunteer at local food drives, and spend time at the local dog parks.

I love working as a veterinarian along side my exceptionally talented team, where I get to share the bond between pets and pet parents on a daily basis. I find myself fortunate to help pets live a long healthy life so that they can continue to provide their families with unconditional love.

My name is Reily Wedge and I am the full time Practice Manager and Veterinary Technician at Dixie /Lacoste Animal Hospital. I joined the team as a Veterinary Technician at our sister clinic Lacoste Animal Hospital in September 2018. I grew up in Hamilton, Ontario and moved to Brampton where I attended the Veterinary Technician program at Sheridan College. I graduated April 2012 and began working full time as a Veterinary Technician. I always have had a deep passion for animals and their wellbeing. Volunteering at an animal hospital made me want to pursue a career in the Veterinary industry.

I love being a Veterinary Technician because every day is different, and I get to provide exceptional nursing and medical care to a variety of different animals. I enjoy working with a passionate team who thrives to provide the best medicine possible to every single pet. We believe in caring for your furry family member like our own so we can enhance quality of life and help your pet live longer. I am also thankful to have the opportunity to manage Dixie and Lacoste Animal Hospital and work closely with veterinarians, staff and the clients that make it a rewarding experience.

My zoo at home currently consist of one cat named Moota, two hedgehogs named Gerwin and Astrid and one Cherry Head Tortoise named Tortellini. I love talking about my pets, sharing random facts, and showing photos of my furry, spikey, and scaly family members!

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and my animals. Being outdoors, fishing, camping, and listening to music. I also volunteer for the Brampton Animal Shelter fostering orphaned kittens.

Wali Sharifi

Kasandra Malanca

Hello there!

My name is Kasandra Malanca and I am a full time Veterinary Technicians here, at Dixe/ Lacoste Animal Hospital.

I have graduated with honors in all of my programs, which include the Animal Care Program, General Arts and Science program and the Veterinary Technician Program at Sheridan College. I am soon to become an official Registered Veterinary Technician, which is a personal goal of mine that I am eager to accomplish. I have been working in the veterinary field since I was 17 years old, and have been working here at Lacoste and Dixie Animal Hospital for the last year as a Technician.

My favorite part of my job is helping any fur baby that walks through our door. Ever since I was 6 years old, my passion for animals started to grow. The thought of me wanting to help any animal has stuck with me ever since, and now I am doing what I love most. Every patient I work with creates a new paw print on my heart, and nothing gives me more delight then seeing everyone’s fur baby happy and healthy.

I currently have two big teddy bear German Shepherds at home named Diesel and Dozer. I have one crazy cat named Shadow and my lovely 18-year-old Cockteil named Tweety. All my pets are unique in their own way, and each have such a loving and caring nature…with the exception of my cat Shadow.

In my past time I like to spend my time outside hiking, enjoying nature and spending time with my family, friends, pets and horses. One of my favorite hobbies is Equestrian riding; I have been riding horses for the last 13 years of my life.

I look forward to meeting and taking care of your fur babies!

Katarine McPhee, RVT

My name is Katarina McPhee. I am one of the Veterinary Technicians at Dixie Animal Hospital. I graduated from a one-year Animal Care program at Sheridan College in Brampton in 2011. I then completed two years of Veterinary Technician at Northern College in Haileybury, graduating in 2014.

My sister and I were adopted from Vyshny Volochek Russia in 1994. It was the beginning of my new life in Canada. I grew up in a small town called Gravenhurst in Muskoka. I did my high-school co-op at Pet Valu and Gravenhurst Animal Hospital, and that’s where my passion for animals began, and when I knew I wanted to work with and help animals for the rest of my life.

Every “Thank you for caring!” I get from the owners of our patients reminds me why I love my job, and I take pride in the skills I have acquired as a Technician. As a technician you need to have many different skills, as the job consists of a lot of day-to-day variety, which I love the most. Never a dull moment working in a clinic.

I adopted my female orange tabby Rubie in 2013, while in my first year at Northern College. We’ve been in love and inseparable ever since.

In my spare time Rubie and I enjoy going up to my cottage in Muskoka. While Rubie enjoys watching the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. I love to swim, hike, boat, and fish.

I welcome your loving animal(s) to our Animal Hospital. They will be treated with all the love and respect as if they were are our own, by myself and the wonderful team at Innovo vet group.
